February is such an interesting month to me. Always two to three days shorter than the other months, I find myself anxious about getting business done. It amazes me that I can let the fact that February is a little bit shorter be such a factor in how I approach my work and business efforts for the month. February is a tricky little month that can have an effect - positive or negative - on your energy level and your bottom line!
This year, 2012 is a Leap Year. Are you a "leapling"? Do you call yourself a "leaper"? Well, Happy Birthday! Being born on February 29 must have its own set of pressure! So I got to thinking about Leap Year and why it exists. Wikipedia states, "A leap year is a year containing one additional day in order to keep the calendar year synchronized with the astronomical or seasonal year. By occasionally inserting an additional day or month into the year, the drift can be corrected." As we all know, Leap Day is February 29th and is added to the calendar as a corrective measure because the earth does not orbit around the sun in precisely 365 days.
Anthony Robbins, the motivational speaker was born on Leap day in 1960. In 1964, Olav Henrickson was the 2nd of three siblings born on consecutive leap days. There are a number of Folk Traditions that pertain to leap year or leap day. In Greece, marriage in a leap year is considered unlucky. One in five engaged couples in Greece will plan to avoid getting married in a leap year. In the British Isles, it is a tradition that women may propose marriage only in leap years.
So if you can imagine me at the beginning of the month of February, looking at those desk calendar squares, knowing there aren't as many as other months, gearing up to make every minute and every day count! I find myself motivated to accomplish more, deprived of those extra days and my energy level is high. While I know this is all in my head, it seems like a reasonable approach to my business and has a positive effect on my bottom line.
The interesting thing that happens to me at the end of February - is that I am ready to jump right into March! A new month, new challenges and so much to accomplish!
